Course Conditions

  • From The Greens                                                                                                                    June 4, 2007

Spring has sprung and we are at least 3 to 4 weeks ahead of schedule.  Our greens aerification has already been completed and with the growing weather we have had in the last while everything has grown in completely.  Recent stimp meter readings have shown that we were rolling just over 7 but a reduction in height tomorrow will likely send green speeds to 8.5 to 9 by the weekend.  I have been asked about the condition of the course and I have to say that thanks to a soft winter and the hard work of my staff it is in the best condition I have ever seen it in the 10 years I have been here.  Many course members have made similar comments to me.  This week a fairway aerification is scheduled an that will be the last of our aerification until the fall.  Players will have a brief opportunity to move the ball on fairways if in an aerifier hole.  The procedure should all be done in 1 or 2 days with sweeping of cores immediately following every fairway that is cored.  Recovery of holes should be fast as it was on greens (a few days) as the already intense growth rate will be supplemented with another scheduled application of slow release fertilizer.

That’s all from the greens for now.  Stay tuned for further updates.
All the best in a great beginning to our golf Season

    Greens Superintendent
